Technology is playing a big part in education these days. As the computer teacher for grades K-4, I am in the process of teaching the kids the proper keyboarding technique. If you click on the grade, it will take you to that grades web page in the elementary. There you can see what the curriculum goals are for all subjects and you may want to stop by the computer section while you are surfing.

Kindergarten is learning the components of the computer such as the mouse, the keyboard, how to turn the computer on and log onto the computer.

1st Grade is basically doing the same thing as kindergarten. They have been playing educational games as well.

2nd Grade is kind of in the middle of the road for students. They are at the age/level where at the beginning of the year, you don't want to put too much information on the table for them, even though some could handle it. So we are in the process of picking out games that match their school levels.

In the up-coming weeks we will be going over the use of the Internet, and it components. Hopefully, we will have time to do a Research project using the Internet, and turn it into a power-point presentation.

3rd Grade is starting to develop their keyboarding skills. This is the hardest time I think b/c it is a real challenge for them to see if they can master the keyboard without looking at the keys. There is a new program that we are using this year called Bernies Typing Travels. The students so far have grasped the new program very well and I think things will only get better as we go along.

Sometime in the next few weeks, we are going to go over how to use Microsoft Word along with PowerPoint. After learning, we are going to put some projects together.

4th Grade is at the head of classes when we are discussing keyboarding. Since they are the "oldest" kids in the Elementary, they pretty much know what is expected of them for computers. They are also using the Bernies Typing Travels program which has brought on some unique challenges for the kids. Click on this link to access your assignment. Scavenger Hunt

They will be typing for close to around 20 weeks during the year and in between those years, they will be going over the Internet, making a project using PowerPoint and just maybe we will get into Microsoft Publisher.

This past school year I was given the opportunity to teach 7th grade students as well. This will be a great experience for both myself and the students as we will develop the skills they have learned since elementary school. As we go on throughout the semester we will do projects that will allow the students to work closely in Microsoft Office tools.

Netwise: This is going to be an Internet Scavenger Hunt. By clicking on the link, they will be taken to a document that will give them directions on how to complete the project. It will give them a better understanding of the Internet and terms that are used.

Inspiration - Software for students that will allow them to develop their own ideas, but with templates that have been set up for them. All they need to do is fill in the blanks.
